Richard Furia, Esq. Honored As Man of the Year
Philadelphia (May 2004) -- Richard F. Furia, Esquire was honored as “Man of the Year” by the Order Sons of Italy in America, Ivy Ridge Lodge 251 at their 93rd Anniversary banquet . Mr. Furia was honored for his tireless dedication and support to the Lodge, to the Order, to the community as a whole and to Italian Americans.
Richard F. Furia, Esquire, is the managing partner of the Philadelphia law firm, Furia and Turner. Currently he serves on the Philadelphia Bar Association Board of Governors and is a delegate to the Pennsylvania Bar Association conventions beginning May 12, 2004. Furia has held national and state offices within the O.S.I.A., including National Orator, Chairman of the By-Law Committee, and National Secretary for the Commission for Social Justice and President of the Pennsylvania Commission for Social Justice. Past Chancellor of the Justinian Society of Italian-American Lawyers, Furia has served as a board member since 1984 and as a board member of the Justinian Foundation since 1996. He also is a member of the National Italian American Foundation, Council of 1000.

Panella; Court of Common Pleas Judges: James Murray Lynn, William J. Mazzola, Louis J. Presenza, Sr., and Paul P. Panepinto; Montgomery County District Justice, John Murray, the Honorable Vito Canuso, the Honorable Michael J. McAllister, Justinian Society Chancellor, Denise Gentile; and President of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, O.S.I.A, William D. Bucci.
Furia was introduced by his daughter, Gina Furia Rubel, Esquire. A Citation was presented to him from U.S. Congressman Jim Gerlach; U.S. Congressman Jim Greenwood presented Furia with a U.S. flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol in his honor on March 27, 2004. Special recognition was given to Furia by Chairman of the Montgomery County Commissioners, James R. Matthews. Additional citations were given to him by Pennsylvania State Senator, Constance H. Williams and State Representative Melissa Murphy Weber. Furia received a letter of recognition from U.S. Senator, Arlen Specter, and a joint citation from the President of Philadelphia Council Anna C. Verna and Philadelphia Councilman Frank Rizzo.
